I saw a thread about good middle schools in D3 and am curious about the same thing for D2. It seems that there are way more decent elementary school options but not so much when it comes to middle schools. Which middle schools are considered the good ones in D2?

UES only has ESMS and Robert Wagner, each with very different feel. Wagner is huge but the flipside is the facilities and courses only it can offer. It has a Special Progress program, which is basically honors track, beyond the GE classes.

ESMS recently moved into a new building just last year so that is nice. The school is about 435 kids so you definitely get that cozy feel to the school. Its track record in sending a majority of its students to specialized high schools is quite amazing too.

Are you looking at just UES or all of D2? UES is only a part of district 2. There are a lot of excellent middle schools downtown - Salk, Lab, Clinton, IS 289, Baruch MS (JHS 104). School of the Future also has a good middle school that continues on through high school.

Salk IS a fantastic school. The science curriculum is top notch. You have Staff from NYU School of Medicine coming to teach lessons and mentor students. Each of the students do a major science project every year that they exhibit at the school Exploratorium. Beyond science, the students also get to take an elective in dance, drama, film or other areas, not to mention the other after school activities they can participate in.
