My son went to It's A Children's World preschool on Robertson Blvd (near Pico). I chose the school for two reasons: location (near The Willows School, where my daughter attends) and the fact that it was a low-key, no frills school. Peacelyn, the director/owner is warm, friendly and an amazing educator. Her school reflects those same qualities.

My family and my son LOVED the school. It's not for everyone. If you're looking for all the extras like enrichment classes, this school doesn't offer much in the way of "bells and whistles". But, its price reflects its no-frills approach.

The other issue I've heard is some families dislike is the campus itself. It's older and has two classrooms, one large and one small. The classrooms are clean, filled with fun learning materials. The focus is on the 3 Rs. The teachers are kind and great with the kids. It's not fancy. The back play-yard is small, but fun for the kids. It's a small, sweet, traditional neighborhood school.

My son, a high-energy boy, LOVED this school. I'd pick him up and the teachers would be playing football with him in the yard. That's what he needed. They knew that about him. The school does very little annual fundraising and there are very few volunteer opportunities for parents. The families mainly live in Beverly Wood and Cheviot Hills. Most of the kids go on to Canfield Elementary. A few go to private schools like Willows, Brentwood and Echo Horizon.

I highly recommend this school if you want a more traditional school for a fair price, with working-parent hours. It does have a wait-list and my son attended afternoon sessions for a year before I could get a morning spot.
