Can anyone suggest public elementary schools with strong arts programs (in addition to good academics)?

We are moving to the Bay Area very soon--SF or Marin.

My daughter will be going into the 4th grade.

We have looked at several schools. Our favorites in the City are:

-New Traditions
-Creative Arts Charter Schools

Many Thanks!

Did you take a look at Jefferson in the Sunset on Irving & 18th Ave? Our daughter's ballet instructor teaches at Jefferson, and she has nothing but great things to say about the arts program there. I just looked up their website and this is how they described it.

"Our outstanding program includes a rotation of visiting artists—a poet, a visual artist, a dancer, a ceramist, muscian and a theatre artist. All classrooms will receive the services of at least one or two of these artists each year. Through PTA fundraising students further their art appreciation by attending the Opera, Symphony, Ballet and all the major art museums. Grades 4-5 participate in a weekly musical program with Mr. Anne Kim and every 5th grader is a member of the Jefferson Choir."

We are new at New Traditions but we have greatly appreciated the creative arts emphasis there. The children take classes with drama, music, and art teachers during the school day. These teachers work with the classroom teachers to integrate the arts with what the children are studying with their classroom teachers. The school also offers a lot of creative arts classes on-site after school including: drama, ceramics, yoga, guitar, and piano.
