New to the city but with locations in Mountain View and Berkeley already well established in the Bay Area, German International School of Silicon Valley opened a new campus in San Francisco, beautifully located in the Presidio.
The Golden Gate Bridge glistened in the summer sun as it welcomed nine bright, young “Parrots” to their new home in the city by the bay. The Parrots welcomed their guests with a cheerful song depicting a bird's life.
Located at 4 Funston Avenue, the GISSV is proud to now be able to open its doors to students from the San Francisco area. The school, which is accredited by the German government, already offers an exceptional, first rate bilingual education to close to 400 students at its Mountain View and Berkeley campuses. Students ranging from preschool age through 12th grade are provided with a stimulating and challenging education cumulating in the acquisition of the German International Abitur and simultaneously the CA High School diploma. This enables them to go on to study at any of the great universities domestically or internationally and to become extraordinary members of today’s global society.
“We are very excited and proud that we were given the opportunity to open a third campus for GISSV in San Francisco Presidio. We hope that the school will flourish and provide a fostering and nurturing environment for students and families who are interested in German language and German culture.”, said GISSV Principal, Martin Fugmann.
The San Francisco Kindergarten class is referred to as the “Parrots” in honor of the swarms of parrots who chose to make San Francisco their home some years ago. Now the new kindergarten parrots can call one of the historic white officer houses in the landmark district of the Presidio their school. The SF campus of the GISSV plans to establish a K through 5 school over the next few years.
The current campus lies at the entrance of the San Francisco bay in the natural setting of the Presidio close to the Golden Gate Bridge and offers elementary school students a holistic and positive learning environment.
Present at the grand opening ribbon cutting ceremony were the Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Peter Rothen, the Cultural Representative of the Consul General, Michael Ahrens, the GISSV Principal, Martin Fugmann, the School Board President, Walter Rossmann, as well as staff, parents and students. It was a picture perfect day for the celebration which was enjoyed by all. Afterwards, the children were eager to get started in their new classrooms.
