Daydreaming about schools as the playdates and screenings are fast approaching. I know many of the schools are great options but i couldn't help myself from having a first choice. Am I the only one or do you have a first choice too? Will you share?

I'll play. We like the coeds so that puts MCDS at the top of our list. What an amazing campus for city kids to explore and learn.

Having gotten too young last year, we'd be happy with either Cathedral or Town. Having a first choice is tough because it's not our choice to make until we get accepted to more than one place.

As disappointed as I may be in Hamlin's decision to offer only Spanish going forward, it's still my first choice.

Presidio mom, can I ask when, roughly, your sons bday is? I'm afraid we are going to get too young letters this year.

From what I know, May birthdays for boys are kind of the borderline. Some siblings may sneak in with a slightly later birthday but I don't often hear non-sibs with a post-May birthday getting in.

Without being too specific, can I say that my son falls into the boat that citymona described for last year? You never know though - maybe your son is really ready and the schools are able to see that during the playdates.

I also know of families with boys with May Birthdays getting too young letters. I know two boys who are the youngest in their private school classes with April birthdays. On the other hand, I know girls with late May/June birthdays who have gotten multiple accepts. It may just be the girls' schools have a different outlook.

Thank you for the replies. My son is a very late May bday. So I'm preparing myself for the fact that even if he does great at the interviews it still may be "no" everywhere. Guess we can always try again next year, but I hope he is not too old for them then.

Late May is on the cusp. Each school may look at your son slightly differently such that you'll get too youngs from most but perhaps an accept from one. I know one of the girls' schools in particular sends too youngs more often than the other two. (By the way, girls schools have a slightly later "cutoff.")
Don't worry. If your son is too young this year, they won't turn around next year and say he's too old. He may actually be in a better position since there may not be that many "older" boys to compete against next year.

Before we started the process, I'd have said one of the boys schools. Now that we've done the tours and met the school leaders, San Francisco Day has emerged as my top choice. Dr. Jackson is quite something and Homa is so sweet.
