The San Francisco school board unanimously elected Norman Yee as president Tuesday night, giving the eight-year veteran board member a boost to his expected run for District Seven supervisor later this year.

Board member Rachel Norton was elected vice president.

Yees unanimous support Tuesday follows something of a tradition on the school board, with the presidency often awarded to those planning to strive for higher office.

Why do politicians feel that they can use our school system as a stepping stone to advance their political careers?

Who's your constituency, Mr. Yee? The parents and students who you are paid to serve, or the voters in your next run for office?

It's absolutely frustrating that we parents consider education to be one of the most important issues, if not the most, but for the board members, we and our children are just pawns.
