Our child currently attends private school, but we are considering public for high school. We live in District 3 but my child's school is in District 2. I know some high schools give admissions priority but is it based on residence or attendance? For attendance, does it matter that my child's school is private? Would appreciate any insight/guidance.

Most high schools in D2 give priority based on the following:

Priority to District 2 students or residents
Then to Manhattan students or residents
Then to New York City residents

We confirmed with DOE that students at privates within D2 boundaries were considered D2 students for D2 high schools. D3 has no priority schools so it doesn't matter there. You would get Manhattan preference for Manhattan schools outside D2 with priority preference.
