Angela Taylor has been selected as the next Head of Convent of the Sacred Heart Elementary School. She will succeed Anne Wachter, RSCJ, who has accepted a position as Head of Sacred Heart School of Halifax (http://www.sacredheartschool.ns.ca/), Nova Scotia.

Many in the community already know Angela well, as she has served as Lower Form Dean at Stuart Hall for Boys since 2000, and was interim Head of School there during the 2004-2005 school year. In her role as dean, she has worked alongside all of the administrative teams at Convent & Stuart Hall (http://www.sacredsf.org/), and is highly regarded within this community for her collaborative nature, as well as for her expertise in curriculum development and her passion for the Goals & Criteria (http://www.sacredsf.org/our-community/our_community/goals_criteria_in_depth/index.aspx). In addition to being an integral part of the Campus Ministry Team, she has represented our school admirably as a presenter at national conferences for the Network of Sacred Heart Schools (http://www.sacredsf.org/about/network_ssh/index.aspx) and the International Boys’ Schools Coalition (http://www.theibsc.org/).

The search for the new Head of School was a seven-month process to find the person best suited to run our all-girls K-8 school, and for that we contracted with Wickenden Associates, the same firm that helped the Board of Trustees in finding the new President of Schools, Anne Marie Krejcarek (http://www.sacredsf.org/president-of-schools/index.aspx). We also had a Search Committee of parents, faculty and administrators, led by current Convent Elementary parents Jean Houston and Larry Miao, who were instrumental in providing forums for people in the community to be involved in the process. I am grateful to Jean and Larry for all of their work, and to all of you who provided feedback. Ultimately, it was Angela who stood out as the best person to lead Convent Elementary School.

“Angela’s experience at our Schools in San Francisco and her participation and leadership roles in various Network conferences over the past 12 years have given her a deep understanding of what it means to be rooted in the Goals & Criteria,” Sr. Wachter says. “I am excited for the future of Convent of the Sacred Heart and look forward to collaborating with Angela for a smooth transition of leadership.”

Angela began her career in education as a homeroom teacher for grades 4 and 5 in Atlanta, and then as a math and science teacher to grades 6 and 7 in Oakland and Boston. She has a master’s degree in School Administration from the University of Massachusetts in Boston (http://www.umb.edu/) and a bachelor’s degree in Child Development from Spelman College (http://www.spelman.edu/) for women in Atlanta. She is a member of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development (http://www.ascd.org/Default.aspx) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (http://www.nctm.org/).

TMZMom, do you know parents at Convent who have met Angela? How is she compared to Sister Anne? Thank you.
