For those of you who are parents of toddlers and thinking about pre-K's for next year, the wonderful Old First Nursery School in Park Slope (7th and Carroll) is doing tours for prospective families this fall.

Old First is a non-denominational, parent-run cooperative school for 3- and 4-year-olds. It's a small (only 15 kids total), creative, nurturing environment led by two full-time and very talented teachers. The school takes a child-centered and play-based approach to education. The parents manage the school (which allows us to keep tuition lower than many other places) and there is a considerable but by no means impossible-to- manage time commitment -- most parents at the school also have full or part-time jobs and the responsibilities can be worked around them.

Admissions are done by lottery in March, with additional consideration given to race/ethnicity and other factors that help us ensure a diverse school community.

We have two tours left this fall - Oct 29th and Nov. 16th -- and an open house on January 15th. Space for the tours is filling up, but you can email admissions@oldfirstnurseryschool.org (http://us.mc564.mail.yahoo.com/mc/compose?to=admissions%40oldfirstnurseryschool.org) to sign up. More about the school can be found at www.oldfirstnursery (http://www.oldfirstnursery) school.org.
