When are SHSAT results and decisions given out?

Rbmom22
02-01-2014, 06:13 AM
According to the DOE website calendar the round 1 results will be handed out in schools on March 10th.

nycadmissionssolutions

Correct, although please note the DOE calendar is typically a tentative schedule and subject to change. Either way, I highly recommend reserving a spot on our February 25 webinar so you are ready for whatever happens!

2014 High School Letter Day (http://www.nycschoolhelp.com/blog/2014/2/20/2014-high-school-letter-day.html) blog from Joyce Szuflita, NYC School Help, suggests ways to prepare your child for the results.
Word is coming down from some Principals that notification may be sooner. Dates and more information are in the article.

Rbmom22

Will the DOE calendar update to show new date? I also heard rumors that its going to be March 7th not March 10th (or Feb. 28th). They really need to let us know - most parents want to be there when their child opens the letter.

nycschoolhelp
02-24-2014, 10:34 AM
It should, but it may be pretty last minute if the rumor about this Fri. is true. I just checked it and the 3/10 date for HS results is gone from the calendar, so something is afoot.

oops, sorry wrong year. It is still showing March 10 under 2013/14 enrollment calendar.

Is this the calendar you are looking at? http://schools.nyc.gov/Common/Templates/MainTemplate/CommonMainTemplate.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID=%7b4467F38F-96BB-42C3-8718-486CF49B76E6%7d&NRORIGINALURL=%2fCalendar%2fdefault%2ehtm&NRCACHEHINT=Guest

I don't see any mention of the letters going out. Am I looking at the wrong thing?

BTW, I'm a wreck over this :( Need to get a grip, fast.

is Wagner your zoned school?

My zoned school is Tottenville

Rbmom22
02-26-2014, 10:45 AM
It is - my daughter is in her senior year in the Scholars program and we are very happy with it, so that's why we put it before Tottenville Institute, but I think both are equally great programs.

We are waiting on LaGuardia and PPAS. As a backup we have SEA, but of course registration is March 5! We already handed in $250 to save a seat. $350 is due at registration, which of course we will kiss goodbye if my daughter gets into the above. Can't win... Why can't archdiocese wait 5 days?? i don't get it..

Thanks for sharing kitkat122. So I'm assuming the letters will come on the 10th or the 11th the latest, since LaGuardias open house is scheduled for the 12th. Unless they reschedule the open house to a later date. This is driving us nuts... I pray that we dont have to do this again next year :/

nyc1967
02-27-2014, 12:04 PM
Yes we did the same only put si tech on the test day and then on the regular HS application we put tottenville science and math institute then English institute then regular tottenville

Just have to add my annoyance at this late notification date! Ugh. My daughter is currently at a private school, and re-enrollment has long since passed. They've given me an extension till March 12th to re-enroll/pay deposit, but what a pain! For starters, it sounds like there might be some lag in getting notifications to private schools, which means we'll have to wait even *longer*--and then she's basically going to have NO time to really think about her decision (she just auditioned for LaGuardia). It's a BIG decision to make on the fly like that. I've heard that notifications used to go out mid-Feb., which aligns with the private school dates and makes sense so that students are able to find out ALL their options before private acceptance deadlines pass. My guess is that there are plenty of kids applying to both the specialized high schools *and* private schools. What are they supposed to do?!

Rbmom22
03-01-2014, 02:04 PM
@kchwriter it really is so frustrating and i dont quite understand why it takes so long. My source said the 7th but the DOE calendar still says the 10th so maybe she was misinformed.

rrivera921

Registration day at catholic school is march 5. I just re-read the paperwork and realized that if we register, we have to pay $785, which is non-refundable. Plus the $250 I already paid to hold the seat. Thats over $1000 that I will lose if my kid gets an offer to oned of the schools she really wants. How is this fair? And the school wont even transfer the money over to my son's tuition, who is a junior. The incredible burden on most families is just a crime ..

Rbmom22
03-02-2014, 04:25 AM
it just leaves me shaking my head - the timing of it all. the DOE could definitely get those results to the students earlier and also the catholic schools - knowing the date of public hs results could postponed the day to register. just all so ridiculous and not fair to families. my son turned down the catholic school offers... he would rather go to wagner scholars or tottenville institute if he doesnt get into SI tech. and then the big mystery of when we find out. the whole process is annoying.

Good luck to your boy! We are zoned for tottenville but my daughter really wants to get off the island. She wants to pursue her dream and it shouldnt be this difficult and costly for herto do so :( Catholic schhols can defenitely postpone their registration date to late march to give tbe families a break. They simply choose not to. Quick way to make a buck. Chritianity at its finest. Makes me sad

We didn't even do the Catholic High School thing this year. We did it last year with my older son, but we knew he really had no desire to go to a Catholic school. He was impressed by Xavier, but even that program wasn't for him. I registered my younger son to take the TACHS test this year, but he decided he didn't want to go to Catholic school no matter what. We're hoping for LaGuardia or PPAS too. He would also be happy with Murrow. I think the Catholic schools should wait too. $1000 is a lot to lose, and I'm wondering do you think you could get your kid in if you waited and didn't pay? Are the Catholic schools so full, they wouldn't take a kid later?

Fingers crossed for all! My fingers are cramped they been crossed for so long :)

If your child applied to both tottenville institute and Wagner scholars, which is your zoned school and which program did u put down 1st?

Rbmom22
03-02-2014, 09:57 AM
@nyc1967 we put wagner scholars first, then tottenville institute (math and science), and 3rd tottenville institute (classics), we are zoned for wagner (put zoned last after couple other screened programs at wagner) I am pretty sure he will be matched with wagner scholars, but who knows. you can never be sure with this process. what did your daughter put? I really feel that wagner and tottenville both have great programs.

nyc1967
03-02-2014, 11:07 AM
I have a son - we r zoned for tottenville - put down tottenville math and science institute 1st then the humanities institute then just regular tottenville.

I hear for institute they pick from zone 1st not sure but all kids seem to put down math and science 1st. My son did get 2 4's on ELA and math last year but I'm thinking a lot did and only 60 seats...

nyc1967
03-02-2014, 11:11 AM
I hear institute is a lot more work then tech....

Honors are also good because u get to try a lot of different things.. With institute u take what they say... Decisions decisions I guess what is.meant to be will.

How about regents classes this year is your son taking any?

My son is taking math, science and social studies- hoping he passes all that will be great but any he passes is that much less than he needs to take in HS

Rbmom22
03-02-2014, 11:21 AM
@nyc1967 oops sorry must have you mixed up with someone else on here. If your son got 2 4's and he put the institute first I'm sure he has a great chance. And I just looked at the directory... the had 68 seats in each institute last year... so if he isnt matched to first then I'm sure he will be to the 2nd one. Wagner scholars has about 130 seats for scholars. Yes my son is taking same regents.
BTW... dont think that many kids got 2 4s last year... there was a drop in the scores this past year. And then your son took SHSAT and put SI tech first?

nyc1967
03-02-2014, 11:34 AM
Yes he put si tech down 1st and bklyn tech 2nd - but he does not want to go to either he really wants institute and just the math and science I think he will turn down the humanities and do the honors if it came to that

nyc1967
03-02-2014, 11:37 AM
Also do kids get wait listed for institute or scholars - and do u find out if u are on a wait list? I am sure some kids might get accepted but will turn it down.

Rbmom22
03-02-2014, 11:38 AM
