A Greenwich Village parent filed a lawsuit Thursday in a bid to prevent the closure of nursery school programs run by the Children’s Aid Society, a local fixture for over 100 years.

The Children’s Aid Society last month told community members that it is considering closing its programs (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704594804575649134173326198.html) in the area and putting its three Sullivan Street buildings up for sale.

As a result of the court hearing Thursday, Judge Eileen Rakower set a hearing date in February to consider a preliminary injunction to prevent the charity from closing the Greenwich Village school program before June 2013...

“The parents don’t want the school to be closed and the situation came to a point where it was appropriate for judicial intervention,” says Luke McGrath, a partner at Dunnington, Bartholow & Miller LLP, who is representing Viviana Bromberg, the Children’s Aid Society parent who filed the lawsuit.
