Any current parents out there willing to share your experiences with SVDP? Also, are there any non-parishoners in your childs class? I'm kicking myself for not convincing my husband to move parishes!!! I feel like we have no shot if we haven't been going to church there for years. :(

I had heard that SVdP exepcts a minimum amount of donation from their parents. Can somebody verify if this is true, and if so, what that figure is?

We have been so happy with our experience at SVdP. We have found it offers not only a great education for our child but such a warm and welcoming community. We couldn't be happier.
When did you join the parish? Do you participate in any of the other SVdP parish activities?

@SFmomm thanks for sharing your experience. we aren't parishoners, we go to St. Agnes which does not have a school so I am hopeful that will help us in the long run. I have made it clear we would join the parish should we be offered a spot. I guess I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

We're looking at SVdP for next year. This was what I found out after browing the school's admission packet.

Saint Vincent de Paul School has four tuition categories.
Category A: $7,700 for participating Parishioners and participating school families.
Category B: $9,200 for participating Parishioners and non-participating school families.
Category C: $9,700 for non-participating Parishioners and participating school families.
Category D: 11,000 for non-participating Parishioners and non-participating school families.

A Participating Parishioner: is a Catholic family registered in Saint Vincent de Paul Parish and known over the previous six months by the parish clergy as participating in Mass regularly at Saint Vincent de Paul Church and contributing at Mass through the offertory envelopes to support the parish.

A Participating School Family: is a family known over the previous six months to the school administration and volunteer coordinator as being an active volunteer at Saint Vincent de Paul School as demonstrated by the completion of required service hours.

The fulfillment of the commitments identified in the definitions above will be verified each January and July to determine the family’s tuition category for the next semester.

For the 2010-2011 school year, the service hour requirement per semester is 7.5 hours for a single parent family and 15 hours for a two parent family (for a total annual service hour requirement of 15 hours for a single parent and 30 hours for a two parent family).
The difference between participating and non-participating school families is $1,500 while the difference between participating and non-participating Parishioners is $1,800. The only question I have now is how does the church know whether and how much you contribute to the offertory envelopes?

Did anyone have any luck getting into SVDP or Notre Dame? If so, were you a parishoner.

We were waitlisted at both and not parishoners but Catholic without a parish school. There is another thread here that says many parishoners got into SVDP but lots of WL at NDV.
