Hundreds of high school seniors whose Regents exams were cancelled by snow Thursday will be able to graduate without the high-stress tests, officials said.

Students who needed the exams to earn diplomas will be able to use their course grades instead, since the next round of Regents exams isn't until June, state officials decided after a day of meetings.

"We are pleased the State took this step that will allow those seniors with sufficient credits and coursework to graduate this month," Schools Chancellor Cathie Black said in a statement.

Close to 100,000 city students had been scheduled to take the tests, scrapped after only the seventh snow day for city schools in the last 30 years.

Black said she understood that students who studied hard would be disappointed that they couldn't take the exams.
