This year the 6th grade classes are at about 1:21 due to a grant and next year it will become 1:25 in core classes hence more openings in the 7th grade. JLMS was one of the top requested schools for 6th grade this year. Smaller school about 600 students, AVID pgm, musical theater, instrumental/rock band, dance, art, Spanish Immersion- extended day with 7 periods 8:30-3:30. A Pirate Writing Room provided by 826 Valencia and their volunteers. Student participate in school wide science fair, student assemblies and performances – Carnaval, Arts Showcase winter and spring-4/28, student incentive celebrations- carnivals, dances, outdoor adventures, etc.
Students in the General Ed (English only pgm) can have two Unified Arts classes (or 1 w/ the other math or language arts support class). The Span. Immer have 1 UA class or a support class. GATE program with extensions in classes and math groups that work in levels through out the year. Daily PE- my classes range from 26-35 students, fitness center and standards based program.
The last several years all grades visited college campuses 6th-8th- SF State, UC Berk, Stanford. Classes go on field trips throughout the year, the API has risen every year, a great parent group (just had the auction this past Sat night)/PTSA, ELAC, SSC, strong teachers/admin that work together, same sports offered as other schools (the smaller the school the better chance of making the team). There is an affordable afterschool pgm with tutoring and enrichment.
Call the school 695-5675 for a tour—remember no school on Friday and then Spring Break next week. PPS SF has parent ambassadors that can answer questions too. It is on the MUNI 24 and 48 line as well as the J Church-I don't know muni that well but those are the biggest lines. Students come from a wide range of schools but larger groups from Fairmount, BV, Alvarado, and Miraloma.
