NYC DOE Hosting Summer Workshop Series for High School Admissions

This summer, the DOE is hosting a workshop series to help middle school students and their families learn about high school options and the admissions process. Students entering 8th grade in September 2011 are encouraged to attend with their families.

Each workshop will take place in all of the five boroughs; translation and interpretation services will be available. All workshops run from 6:30 8:00 p.m. You can find a complete schedule and a flyer about the workshops at the high school admissions webpage.

Session 1: High School Admissions: Where Do I Start?
An introduction to the process and the many types of schools available

    Session 2: Specialized High Schools
Learn about the nine Specialized High Schools and the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test

    Session 3: Make Informed Decisions
An overview of admissions methods with an emphasis on screened and audition programs

It is a pity that the DOE isn't doing the separate workshop for the Arts Auditions that they did last year. I just blogged with links to the handouts and my notes from last year's workshop, as well as information on my High School Choice: Calm and Clear talk.
