Chicago's complex public school system, which offers students numerous options for which school to attend and varying entrance procedures, often leaves parents frustrated as they search for the best place for their children.

In an effort to help parents navigate the system, Chicago Public Schools has created an online school locator at that allows a detailed search for schools by ZIP code or school name.

In addition to identifying nearby schools, a map will sort elementary, middle or high schools and further identify them by classification as a neighborhood school, magnet school, selective enrollment school or charter.

The website aims to help parents about to move identify neighborhoods with good school options. Those who already have moved can find information about their neighborhood schools while also tracking down nearby academically competitive programs and privately run charters.
