Waste of time looking at all girls schools?

I can't believe how time consuming the kindergarten application process is. I should have known better from the preschool process but feels like this is on another level. Anyway, we're looking at both coeds and the all girls schools in the city. We have a younger boy who'll have to go through the process later so I'm wondering if we're wasting our time looking at the single sex. Any thoughts or advice from those with girls and boys???

Each child can be so different that it's hard to know in advance that one school (co-ed or single sex) will be a fit for your younger child. I have a good friend who has an older daughter who's thriving at SF Friends, but it's not proving to be a good fit at all for their younger son so they are looking for another school even though they are in a co-ed school. That was eye-opening for them, and we've seen a number of families split across schools. So their advice was to pick the best school for the child, even if it's single sex, as you'll never get a a guarantee that any one school will be best for every child you have and you should solve for the child you are looking for. So we are looking at single sex even though we have two children of different genders. There is a lot of research that supports how boys and girls learn differently. Best of luck!

I agree with mannamom - each child can be so different, particularly the different gender. While there are several great coed options, we ultimately chose an all girls school for our oldest daughter, knowing full well that we'll have to go through the process again for our son. That said, we are very happy with where our daughter is. Her confidence, her friendships and her relationship with her teachers have been amazing.

Thanks guys. We're trying to cast our net wide since I heard of so many shutouts. Based on what you guys said, I'll probably go ahead and apply to all the girls schools anyway and then see what happens. I don't need to make that decision yet when it's not really up to me, right?
