Which grade is she going into? I know someone got 93 and was offered a spot in K last year. And another person got 96 for 1st grade and was accepted as well. Both do not have any siblings in the school. Since K is the lowest grade this school offers and has two classes, I think chances to get in is much higher compared to PS 229 which has only 1 G&T class.

Apologies - should have clarified this is for Kindergarten.

Got it. Have you considered Q300? I think the chances of going into kindergarten is much higher with 99, and there's school bus service in the district which's very helpful. It was our first choice for 1st grade last year.

We're definitely applying to Q300 first but keeping conservative expectations considering how popular these citywide schools and we have no sibling priority. What we're struggling now with is deciding G&T order in district 24. We're deciding between ACE Academy for Scholars and IS 119.

Again, thank you so much for your insight. Its sooooo helpful!

Thanks. Also looking at Ace or Glendale. Any thoughts on 229 or 153?

Hi acollado - from some of the research I've done myself, ACE appears to be pretty good. Example DOE link: https://tools.nycenet.edu/snapshot/2...gn=School_Page

I'm still not sure between IS 119 and ACE. I'm slightly closer to IS 119 but my independent research makes me rank ACE slightly higher than IS 119.

If potential bullying is a concern, a school with 2 G&T classes can be an advantage over a school with 1 G&T class. If your kid doesn't get along with certain kids, you can be switched (if really needed) to the other G&T class. Otherwise, your kid is stuck with the same kids for the next 6 years.

That is definitely one positive. I also like that Glendale goes straight through 8th grade, it appears they have a G&T Middle School, and pretty good standardized high school acceptance rates. ACE is closer to us though and looks like an excellent choice. Those will be my top district pics which may literally come down to a coin toss. Im thinking Kaplan then Maspeth next. The last two do not have much information that I could find besides distance, class size, and regular test scores. We will end up putting a bunch of out of district as well.

We ended up ranking the schools in the district, ACE, 119, 153, 229. Filled out the full 12 though. We also just received word of a seat offer, off of the waitlist at Achievement First Charter school in Bushwick. This is a hell of a process.
