    Qs on Middle School

Looking for the 101 on how to apply to middle school in Manhattan. DOE site says to apply to
"admissions priority or guarantee, such as their zoned school(s) or continuing school" but many middle schools do not seem to be zoned? Is it just by geographical proximity then?

Assuming the grades and test scores check out--- do you just apply going down the list of schools you prefer and hope for the best?

TIA for all your thoughts & experience on this.

Proximity is one aspect re zoned.

Every kid has a zoned middle school, you can find out what is yours by calling 311.

Yes, you prioritize all your choices on the application and its processed in your rank order until a match is found.

I'm not sure if that addressed what you've asked. If not, just holler!

With zoned schools you are guaranteed a spot if you live in that neighborhood. If it’s a screened school, even if close to you, the school looks at grades and test scores and then ranks all applicants based on total score. So, you are not guaranteed a spot. If you have any other questions, let me know.
