Incoming 2020 SHSAT NYC Specialized High Schools Offers Soon, Let's talk

I'm starting to get emails about the upcoming SHSAT offers as it's "game on" at this point for offer letters to arrive depending upon how the DOE printing process is occurring as well as uploading offer info to myschools.nyc

Therefore, this is a good time to open up discussions about the SHSAT cutoffs, Discovery, and all things SHS.

    Let's talk!

I bet cutoff score for Tech will be over 500 for the first time probably ever due to expansion of the Discovery program.

Probably. But also depends upon how the DOE wants to wiggle things.

DOE just sent out email. By March 20th letters will be out. Which lines up with all the SHS student welcome nights the following week.

Any similar intel about the timing of middle school results on MySchools or letters mailed?

the DOE said they will send out the letter on March 20th, but will the result be available earlier on Myschool.com website?

The DOE message is "by" not "on" so technically it could arrive in a few days. I doubt that though and anyway all we do do is assume the 20th.

Traditionally DOE dates are meaningless, that is, they often don't meet their own dates. So... hard to say. Plus myschools is too new still that there is no known pattern, and even if there was one, as per just made statement, it's the DOE.

That said, they seems to time it fairly simultaneously, perhaps by having some of the mail come back to themselves. We'll also have another kind of cross check which is that usually the guidance counselors will have another set of the printed letters too to hand out to students.

So even if it hits myschools first it probably won't be by any significant lead time. Plus myschools has had technical problems in these things in the past including offers being removed. So tred cautiously.

Do you think that cut offs for specialized high schools will become significantly higher?

As the algorithm is secret, the DOE can do lots. But if they keep things consistent, cutoffs will probably rise mildly.
